The manufactured objects and the brand names that surround us in our daily lives all originate from somewhere. Montreal, as an economic metropolis, has been the birthplace of many of the items in the collection of the Centre d'histoire de Montréal, which has amassed more than 4000 silent witnesses of the past. This exhibition presents a selection of nostalgia products from the popular culture of yesteryear and poses a number of riddles to visitors. Made in Montreal or not? Appearances can be deceiving. It’s your guess!

Who was Norman Bethune, a legendary figure still venerated by millions of people in China? This impulsive, eccentric surgeon, a bon vivant of multiple talents, lived the first third of the 20th century with fierce intensity. Driven by his passions, fighting against the horrors of war and of tuberculosis, Bethune left an indelible mark in three continents. Startling imagery inspired by comic-strip and pop art takes us in Bethune’s wake through the contrasting worlds of Montreal and China in the 1930s.
