Permanent

  • To mark the 100th anniversary of HEC Montréal, a circuit tour of the building where the École des hautes études commerciales de Montréal was founded has been designed. Several photographic archives of great interest illustrate the early evolution of this institution, a major influence in Québec’s socioeconomic expansion. The building now houses BAnQ‘s Centre d’archives de Montréal.

Guided by photos and inspired by her own experience, Innu author Joséphine Bacon weaves the thread of this dramatic plunge into the everyday life of the Innu people with a sensitive and poetic text. The Grande Bibliothèque will host five architectural installations inspired by poetry. These were created by groups of architects and well-known and emerging glass artists. Each creation will integrate, in its unique way, the verses of a contemporary Québec author, and stimulate the imagination of visitors, while giving rise to reflections on the presence and the role of glass in sustainable architecture. The exhibition is presented as part of Montréal, City of Glass 2010 under the direction of the Board of Montréal Museum Directors.

Featuring 88 Québec artists—trained printmakers and practitioners from other disciplines—and nearly 200 works drawn in part from the print collection of Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec, this contemporary art collection reveals how a body of printmaking techniques can affect and colour the work of our best artists, and conversely.

In the absence of any international copyright legislation, the Belgian book industry developed in part thanks to the unauthorized production of new editions of French works. This exhibition studies the circulation of Belgian-made French books and underlines the importance of Belgian counterfeit editions within the collections of Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec.

As a blind lad, barely 16 years old, Louis Braille (1809-1852) used his practical and scientific mind to open the door to knowledge and social equality for blind people. This exhibition highlights one of BAnQ’s less-known collections, that of the Service québécois du livre adapté (SQLA), as well as a large number of books and objects that are on loan from the Institut Nazareth et Louis-Braille.
