Birthplace of Montréal and an authentic archaeological site, Pointe-à-Callière leads visitors through six centuries of history, from Indian days to the present. Opened in 1992, it combines treasures from the past with advanced technology to offer a fascinating experience.

  • The new permanent exhibition, Where Montréal Was Born, is an emotion-packed rendezvous with the history of this city born over 360 years ago. Highlights: Montréal's first Catholic cemetery, with an audiovisual environment, along with an interactive model showing how the site has evolved from 1350 to the present and a virtual fresco taking visitors back to a market day in 1750, as passenger pigeons flutter in the marketplace.

  • La Station de pompage Youville, située au 173 d’Youville, est un élément important du patrimoine industriel de Montréal.   • The new permanent exhibition Montréal Love Stories – The Cultural Connection, just in time for Valentine’s Day, looks at the stories of Montréal men and women who are passionate about Montréal and have chosen to live and love here.

    The exhibition, located in the Ancienne-Douane building, leads visitors to the very heart of the crossroads of peoples that is Montreal. Drawing on objects and first-hand stories from Montrealers representing different communities, photos depicting urban landscapes, video montages and works by local artists, it introduces visitors to Montrealers, through their many cultures and traditions.

    Discover the history of the most isolated land on Earth: Rapa Nui, or Easter Island. Through various artifacts and the work of researchers, this exhibition offers us the opportunity to experience—for the first time in Canada—the beauty of this mysterious people.

    In carrying out field investigations throughout French North America, ethnologist Jean-Claude Dupont collected hundreds of legends that he has shared through the publication of specialized books and collections, as well as through his own paintings in the naïve style. In Discovering legends with Jean-Claude Dupont, through close to forty of his paintings, supported by objects to provide context, Jean-Claude Dupont shares his passion for francophone and Amerindian legends and customs.

    A composition by Pierre Labbé, with the participation of Michel Faubert.

    For this outdoor concert, boats, trains, and other urban instruments will unite their sounds to the voice of storyteller Michel Faubert in an original work by composer Pierre Labbé.

    Entitled Sound Waves this symphony takes its inspiration from popular francophone legends from North America and from oral tradition. In Place Royale, where rumours begin, the storyteller and three musicians will accompany the unexpected sounds from these enormous transient instruments.

    For the Montréal All-Nighter, organized by the MONTRÉAL HIGH LIGHTS Festival, young and old, along with the city’s night owls and fans of storytelling are being given a rare opportunity to visit the Museum at night! Come listen to storytellers Eric Michaud and Francis Désilets in the archaeological remains as they share Québec legends of the past with their audience.

    Take advantage of this opportunity to visit the Discovering Legends with Jean-Claude Dupont and Where Montréal Was Born exhibitions free of charge.

    Discover Québec’s oral heritage through this special activity presented as part of the Discovering Legends with Jean-Claude Dupont exhibition. In the Museum’s archaeological remains, storyteller Eric Michaud will share Québec legends, and historian Jacques Lacoursière will explain their origins.

    Pointe-à-Callière invites young people and their grandparents to pay a visit to the Museum... together! Grandparents (65 and over, on presentation of a piece of ID) and their grandchildren (under 18) both get in free. Family rate, and children under 6 are admitted free.

    During school break, parents and children who visit the Museum are invited to take part in the Fleur-de-lis tour route. While exploring the When Montreal was Born exhibit with a special booklet, families discover archaeological remains and artefacts from the French period.
