  • By turns dazzling and dark, dignified and frivolous, steamy-hot and icy-cold, Montreal – city of a thousand spires, crossroads of a continent – casts its eternal spell. The McCord Museum’s permanent exhibition, entitled Simply Montréal, offers myriad glimpses of this unique city and immerse visitors into the very heart of the rich and varied experience it offers.

    An array of First Nations objects, full of symbolism and emotion; a selection of extraordinary photographs by the renowned Canadian photographer William Notman; a variety of sports equipment and charming toys; a series of splendid gowns and outfits worn by illustrious Montrealers – over 800 objects from the McCord’s famous collection will bring the great Montreal adventure to life.

    Wathahine, which means long journey in Mohawk, is a collection of black-and-white portraits by Nance Ackerman, a documentary photographer.

    This exhibition tells the story of some twenty remarkable Aboriginal women - elders, artists, teachers and activists - all women of strength and determination who have fought to improve their own lives and those of their families and communities.

    An exhibition on the integration of Irish immigrants and their contribution to the social, political and economic landscape of Quebec, from the founding of New France to today.

  • 2010-06-18-2010-10-18

    The exhibition is comprised of 13 structures that offer historical and current views of Montreal, with 24 photographs taken in the 19th century by William Notman (1826-1891) superimposed with 24 photos taken by Poland-born Toronto photographer Andrzej Maciejewski between 1999 and 2001.

    Through a parallel display of the original works and their contemporary equivalents, the exhibition spurs reflection on our day-to-day lives and the passing of time.

    The exhibition, comprised of costume components, photographs and audio and video documents, will capture the imagination of visitors as they delve into Cirque's wondrous world.

    It pays tribute to the savoir-faire of the costume designers and artisans at Cirque du Soleil and provides a fascinating insight into 25 years of enchanting fabric, colour and form at the heart of the magical shows staged by Cirque du Soleil.
