Temporary exhibition

Montréal Nightlife

from Jul 12, 2025 to Feb 15, 2026
Pointe-à-callière, Montreal archaeology and history complex

Delve into the fascinating story at the source of Montréal’s festive spirit.

Bars, cabarets, nightclubs, and festivals: every street corner bears witness to a rich history marked by daring, creativity, and the pleasure of getting together. By legalizing alcohol in 1919, Montréal established itself as a haven for revellers from across America. Since then, the nightlife scene has never stopped evolving, becoming a veritable cultural laboratory: from jazz clubs to the electro raves of the 1990s to techno after-hours events, Montréal has cultivated its art of partying.

And still today, Montréal’s nightlife continues to shine. It’s an economic engine, a place of freedom, and a playing field of expression for thousands of workers and artists.

Explore dresses, necklaces, sequins, records, instruments, and archival photos and videos in this striking exhibition showcase.

Let’s party!
